What GCash says about gambling transactions
A blanket ban on gambling merchants doesn’t appear anywhere in GCash’s terms and conditions — pyramid and Ponzi schemes are what the nearest clause targets. Any restrictions that exist come from the regulator’s direction. BSP Memorandum M-2025-029, issued 14 August 2025, required all BSP-supervised institutions to strip in-app links and redirects to gambling and gaming sites inside 48 hours, prompting GCash to withdraw the GLife Games top-up and withdrawal feature effective 16 August 2025.
GCash states, as a separate matter, a zero-tolerance policy on illegal gambling operators, adding that it has blocked roughly 3,200 merchants for QR-system abuse that redirected users to illegal gambling and scam sites. That restrains two things: illegal-gambling-linked merchants and in-app gaming top-ups. Whether a licensed casino’s cashier may accept GCash funding is a question left open here, in both directions.
